Things I Regret Spending Money On

In these difficult times, many of us are keen on making every penny go as far as possible. Future and perhaps current income is not secure, so we have to make cutbacks. With that in mind, i took a look at some things i regret spending money on.

Coffee

I love coffee, and am certainly not arguing against spending money on it. After all, billions of us enjoy its taste. However, my issue is with how much and in which ways we spend money on it. And the way we waste most money is via coffee shops. Getting coffee on the go is a lucrative business for those that sell it. But it s much cheaper to make coffee in your home. Then just drink it there, or fill a flask should you want coffee on the go.

Things I Regret Spending Money On – Taxis

Taxis are getting more and more expensive, for multiple reasons. Petrol is nor cheap of course, but  always feel a taxi is dead money for me. Money that can be spent better in other ways. Taxis are convenient of course, but other forms of public transport are usually cheaper. Also, sharing helps, There is little worse than having to get a taxi by yourself, especially over a long distance. It always helps to share costs, in any walk of life.

Wasted Food

We are a nation of food wasters. Thousands of tonnes of food is thrown away every year in the UK. I dread to think how much extra was also disposed off after the recent panic buying. At least people will use those toilet rolls eventually. We need to be more efficient in what we buy.  include myself in that. Plan better, and use food close to going out of date. and utilise the freezer of course.

Things I Regret Spending Money On – Rent

A contentious choice perhaps. Rent gives you a roof over your head, without the costs of renovations, repairs and the like. Away from the UK, few would consider rent a waste, but in the UK it is more contentious. The obvious downside is the fact that you never own the property. The money spent on a mortgage at least helps towards an eventual goal. You have an asset that at a later date you can sell or pass on. Not with rented accommodation.
