Which Bills Am I Responsible For?

In most circumstances, you’ll be responsible for all household expenditures associated with a rental property, so get a total estimate from the existing tenant and compare it to your current running costs. Consider whether the costs are manageable for you going forward.

Find out if you’ll be able to transfer energy and broadband providers to the best prices as a new tenant.

Check that you won’t be responsible for expenditures like service charges, building insurance, and ground rent, which are the property owner usually covers.

Questions To Ask When Renting – What Am I Allowed To Do On Property?

It all boils down to the landlord’s policy when it comes to pets and redecorating.
However, be clear with any requirements from the start, or you risk losing your money later on.

Furnishings?

Your neighbours are important, especially if you’re looking at a flat or terraced house where you’ll be living in close quarters with other people.

Look them up to see who they are and what they do. A young family may leave their property early every day. They may make noise whilst doing so! A bunch of twenty-somethings may cycle their days around late nights. Although there’s no assurance that the letting agency will know anything about the neighbours, it’s still worth asking.

Even if you’re viewing a house with a drive or designated parking spots, it’s important checking whether the road has any parking restrictions, as you’ll still need to consider where any visitors will park.
