It’s a common problem for many of us, no doubt. We want to have some fun, but doing so is an expensive business. We’d all love to jet off to somewhere warm or stay in a nice hotel, but it is not realistic. And even close to home, many social interactions come with a price. But not all. There is still loads you can do without splashing the cash. Moolr took a look at how to have a fun weekend for free. Or at least on a tight budget.
Have A Fun Weekend For Free – Museums
One thing the UK does rather well is allow access to it’s abundant history (or other countries’) for free or low prices. The United Kingdom is awash with free museums and historical points of interest. The only cost is the transport to get there. For me, my favourite is the British Museum, which I always try and pop into when in London.
Have A Fun Weekend For Free – Picnics
Admittedly this is dependent on the British weather, but we all need to eat, so why not eat somewhere with a view, and make a day of it? Say a park or the grounds of a stately home. It’s cheap, and fun too.
Social Media
Use social media to find out what free events are going on in your area. I for example am a member of a Facebook group for my suburb of Manchester, and people are constantly listing events in the area, most of which are free to attend.
See A Show
By which i mean being part of the audience at the filming of TV shows (sign up to SRO Audiences). Last year i went to see 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown at Media City, Salford Quays.
Cycling/Walking/Swimming
Self-explanatory! Free apart from the bike itself, and its upkeep. And the world is your oyster.
Alternatively, take a hike around the beautiful countryside or if you live on the coast, hit the beach. If you’re really brave, take a dip!
Have A Fun Weekend For Free – Fun At Home
TV watching is an obvious option, but don’t forget the fun that can be had with board games and quizzes. Surf the internet and perhaps whilst there consider volunteering for a charity event, sponsored walk or school fete. And of course there is reading, and local libraries that can supply free books. In fact a shop local to me supplies three free books per customer too.
The final option is a bit of gardening, but this might split readers! The fun alternative for me is cooking – i take a lot of satisfaction in eating a meal i have lovingly prepared, and even more so when others eat it too.
Visit Friends
And catch up with what’s going on in the world. If I take a bottle of wine i already possess, I consider it a free night too! You’re allowed to cheat occasionally.
