Keep Fit On A Budget

In the current climate, there is little choice but to keep fit on a budget considering most options are closed to us, and as I type, gyms are still not ready to open in the UK. Bu that should not stop you getting fit, and there are plenty of ways to stay fit without splashing the cash. Let’s look at a few options.

Keep Fit On A Budget – COUCH TO 5K

A great app that i am about to dive into and see where i get! Created as a joint venture with the NHS, it guides couch potatoes like myself to take up running at a steady pace, guiding you to gradually increase the distance you run. You can play your own music, but a voice on the app will interrupt and guide you through your runs at all times.

DVDS

Clear a bit of space, and it has never been easier to exercise at home. Get an exercise DVD out, or perhaps a yoga one, and get started. Follow the lead of the presenter and you’ll be seeing gains in no time at all. Exercise is so important, even in little doses. You can feel the benefit in energy levels, and that’s before we get to general health.

Keep Fit On A Budget – Walk

Not everyone is fully mobile, but if you are, consider how much you walk, and whether you could walk more. Just add little amounts onto journeys. Get off a bus a stop earlier. Walk short distances rather than automatically using the car as standard. Just adding small walks into your routine can make all the distance, and of course it is free. In fact, it may even save you money!

Diet

I have really had to rein in my eating habits during lock down. I was using the fact i was not spending money going out as an excuse to buy whatever food i wanted. And my diet has suffered, especially since my weekly badminton game has been cancelled! There are obvious downsides to being at home most the time, so it is important to keep on top of your diet. Ensure that you continue to eat greens, fruit, vegetables and show some discipline. And do not let drinking habits spiral out of control either.

Join A Club

If you struggle to give yourself the willpower to regularly exercise, then couple up! Join a walking or running club in your neighbourhood. Offer to walk dogs or do errands for those in your vicinity. Join some Facebook groups and see what is going on out there.
