You need both, basically. There are two things that can stop a promising podcast in its tracks. Firstly, an erratic release schedule. I subscribe to plenty of podcasts likes this. They put out quality content, but you’ve no idea when their next release will be. So often, you forget about them, and stop checking. Whereas with a podcast you like that has a set release time, you will check in every week to take in the new content. Be predictable with releases as well as producing good quality content. And audio quality is a part of that. Invest in a mic and some headphones. And have some back up shows so that you are not under pressure to produce content.

Be Reactive

This depends on what topics you cover in your podcast, but it may be relevant. Reacting to breaking news and current affairs can help grow your podcast, as people want to listen to opinions and coverage of said events.

Most of us who make podcasts are not doing it as a full-time job. So we have other priorities in life, and few of us know what is around the corner. But you can get round potential issues by being reactive. You can prepare yourself for life getting in the way of recordings.
