Save Money On Gifts

One of life’s constant expenses is the giving of gifts. That is not something that upsets me – i love both giving and receiving gifts. But nevertheless, the constant procession of birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas and more can be draining for those struggling with their finances. Moolr have taken a look at how we can all save money on gifts, without skimping on the quality of gifts.

Make A Gift

The best gift is not the most expensive one. Some of my best presents have been ones where much thought has been put into the decision of gift. With that in mind, why not consider using some initiative and choosing more personal gifts. This could involve you using a skill to good use – perhaps using an expertise in an area of crafts to make something personal for someone special. This means spending time rather than just money on a gift. Save money on gifts by putting together your own gift packs rather than getting ripped off with expensive pre-packaged goods.  The possibilities are endless.

Save Money On Gifts – Ditch the gift wrapping

This is my personal tip. It may not be for everyone, and may split the sexes! But i invest all my money in the gift, and nothing else. I use the cheapest wrapping paper, scrap the gift tags, and just concentrate on the present itself. After all, the other stuff only goes straight in the bin!
No one remembers the gift wrapping on a present, but they remember the present itself.

Save Money On Gifts – Plan Ahead

If you are well organised, you can make your money go much further. If you see a present that is heavily reduced, that would make a good gift well into the future, it could be worth you buying it now and storing it until you hand it out. Also, if you have a specific gift in mind for someone, consider the possibility of it being cheaper at certain times of the year. some items are “seasonal” and their price varies considerably. There are of course the sales too, especially around the Xmas period, where you can pick up endless bargains for the year ahead.

Agree Limits With Friends & Family

This is an important one for me. do not be afraid, or embarrassed, to discuss with friends a cap on what you spend on each other. No one will be upset that you have approached the subject. A cap allows you to put more thought into gifts too – see it as a challenge! People earn wildly variable amounts of money, and we cannot expect everyone to have the same budget for gifts. You can even skip gifts altogether and request an anonymous charitable donation instead. We all like to receive gifts, but there are more important things in life.
