A Look At Sleep

At the moment, a lot of people are struggling to sleep, which is understandable. So we thought it a good time to look at sleep. Elsewhere,  i have written about how to get a good night’s sleep. Do check it out.

A Look At Sleep – What Is The Point Of Sleep?

Scientists have mulled over this question for many centuries and beyond. Not all living organisms attach the same importance on sleep. but for humans, it is clearly vital for existing. Extreme lack of sleep can kill. It seems from what we know so far that sleep acts as a daily MOT on your body. As you sleep, your body replenishes itself – most notably the brain.

Advantages Of Good Sleep

Having recently read Why We Sleep, by Matthew Walker, it has changed my view on everything about sleep. Like most, i just felt sleep was something i needed some of to get by. But it is far more important than that. Good sleep can slash your chances of a range of diseases, from cancer to heart problems. So do try everything you can to get a good night’s sleep. Make your surroundings as conducive as possible. A lack of sleep will affect your energy levels, your mood and your concentration levels, as well as your memory.

A Look At Sleep – Body Cycle

Do not assume that we all need the same amount of sleep at the same time. It is not true, and it changes according to what stage of life you are at. Babies sleep at different times to teenagers, who sleep at different times to adults. So be aware of that. You all have a circadian rhythm that controls when you want to sleep.

A Daily Nap Is Good!

Don’t be afraid to have two sleep cycles during a 24 hour period. The afternoon lull is universal, and just one of the reasons hot countries love a siesta. The human body is designed to have two sleeps per day, not one.
