Save Money On Holidays

In the cold winter months, many of us love to plan ahead for sunnier times. We took a look at how to save money on holidays.

Plan ahead and book your travel and accommodations early for better deals

The more time you give yourself, the greater the opportunities to find a good deal. There are many ways to take advantage of this theory. Look at prices the day flights go on sale for example, as they are likely to be at their cheapest on that day. Look out for offers, and shop around. The only way to otherwise get a good deal is to take the gamble of a last-minute bargain.

Consider alternative destinations that may be cheaper or off-season

Do you always go to the same place? Well, there’s a whole world out there, and much of it is super cheap, even for tourists. If you need to holiday on a budget, then think about where you could go to get more bang for your buck. Perhaps pick a new place that is both cheap to fly to, and has cheap accommodation too.

Look for package deals that include airfare, hotel, and car rental

Or look for a deal. When i booked a holiday to Turkey last year, i assumed that booking everything separately would save me a fortune. Not so. A Jet2 package deal knocked £400 off the cheapest alternative. This included breakfast and transfers from the airport. Check the major sites and see what is out there. Compare costs using the different ways to book a holiday.

Use rewards points or credit card miles for travel expenses

Many of us have reward points stacked up on various loyalty cards. If you have plenty of Air Miles, then this could be the time to use them to knock money off the cost of your holiday. It will make the trip even more enjoyable!

Cook meals at your vacation rental instead of eating out all the time

So once on holiday, there are also many ways to budget, without curtailing your enjoyment of the break. Sometimes there is nothing better than visiting the local supermarket, and having some food at your apartment or hotel. You do not have to eat out all the time. The same principle applies to spending money on activities. You can do plenty of stuff for free – like sitting on a beach”

Consider a road trip instead of flying

This depends how far you are travelling of course. But if flights are expensive, consider alternative methods of travel, Train, ferry or perhaps a nice, fun road trip. Once there, transport choices can also save you money. Consider walking and biking rather than renting a car or getting taxis everywhere.

Save Money On Holidays – Flexibility

Ultimately, the best way to get a good deal is to be flexible. Flexible about what time of the day you travel, which day of the week, or just with dates generally. Then you can pick the cheapest flight.
