We have discussed in detail ways to make money on this site, as we look to advise people on what they can do without recourse to extra debt. But there are some less well known ways to make some money that we may have ignored. Let us take a look at some of those ways.
Your home could be a goldmine, and you don’t have to move out for it to be so! Firstly, if you possess a spare room, you could rent it out, should you be comfortable with someone else living in your property. I did it once, for two years, and it proved a welcome income for the landlord. He was struggling for work, and it was a cheaper alternative for me than renting my own place.
Secondly, if you have a spare garage or parking space or drive that is close to a popular public transport route, why not rent out the space? There are sites you can sign up on and advertise your parking arrangement. Many drive to such places then commute into a city via a train or tram. Thus there is easy money for you to make. People crave a secure place for their vehicle to rest during a working day.
Finally, if you have somewhere to go for a few days, some people make an absolute fortune renting their whole house out for film and TV crews. They pay vast amounts of money for the right type of property. Alternatively, if your home is empty much of the year, you can rent it out. Do so on a site such as Airbnb.
I’ve mentioned this before, but it is worth a brief recap. It can be huge fun to do a car boot sale, as it makes you money, there is a buzz involved as the sales flood in, and it clears some much-needed space in the house! Alternatively you can sell individual items on eBay. But it may be more efficient to put aside half a day for a car boot sale.
My sister does this. Companies pay her to make purchases or go to a restaurant. What’s not to like?! It is a nice side earner for the occasional trip out, She compiles a report afterwards. She comments on the experience, and how smooth she found it.
A similar experience to the previous example. Join up on sites, and occasionally you will be invited to apply for focus groups. These may be home visits, or require you to go to a group session. They are on a range of topics, so not everyone will be suitable, and you will be rejected some of the time. But just the occasional successful application can help your finances. They often pay more than £50 for a couple of hours of your time.
