Even a sleep can help retain information and a break certainly helps retain sharpness through subsequent work. No one likes a deadline, but they have their uses. Personally, as someone who works from home, I struggle sometimes to motivate myself. Deadlines help me, as they focus my mind. When there is something tangible to work towards, the majority of employees will up their game in order to reach that goal. No one wants to miss a deadline, especially for something important. The important thing to remember is that the deadlines and goals must always be realistic. There is little to gain by pushing yourself or work colleague to the brink of exhaustion. nor is bringing extra, unnecessary stress into the workplace of any benefit to anyone.

If you are responsible for employees, a great way to increase productivity and keep people active, mentally as much as physically is via collaboration. Working together on projects, whether it is a fully cooperative effort or simply having a sounding board to bounce initial ideas around, can be a massive help when it comes to productivity. The team spur on each other, and help cut out lulls in productivity. Ideas can be bounced off each other and problems solved as a team.
